After the Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball team lost to Saint Louis in the WNIT the focus quickly shifted to the health of star post player Serah Williams.
The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year left the game after UW’s first possession with an apparent leg injury, but no update was immediately available. Well, now we know what happened.
Last week I underwent surgery to repair my meniscus from an injury that was sustained in our postseason run.
I want to thank my doctors and medical staff for their care as well as Badger Nation for the well wishes!
Excited to return next year stronger than ever #OnWisconsin— Serah Williams (@SerahWilliams25) April 17, 2024
On Wednesday, Williams posted that she “underwent surgery to repair my meniscus” last week and she is “excited to return next year stronger than ever.” While a meniscus injury is nothing to scoff at, it’s probably one of the “better” case scenarios when talking about a knee injury.
Williams is the focal point for Wisconsin on both ends of the court and getting her back healthy is of the utmost importance to any success the Badgers plan on having next year.
In other news from around the Wisconsin WBB-sphere, rising sophomore Ana Guillen is reportedly in the transfer portal. Talia Goodman of The Next reported on Wednesday morning that the native of Spain will be looking for an opportunity elsewhere next year.
Wisconsin freshman Ana Guillen has entered the transfer portal, a source tells @TheNextHoops.
Averaged 1.1 ppg.

After getting some backup minutes early in the year, Guillen slowly saw her role diminish as the season wore on. She ended the year appearing in 22 games (5.5 minutes per game) and averaging 1.1 points, 0.6 rebounds, 0.4 assists, and 0.2 steals per game. Guillen was a late addition to Wisconsin’s recruiting class last year and will probably be looking for a place where she can have a regular role in the rotation.
Hopefully I’ll soon have some incoming transfer portal news to report soon as the Badgers now have an extra roster spot available with Guillen’s departure.
