Watch: Clippers' James Harden scores 20 points in first half vs. Mavericks

Although star forward Kawhi Leonard is sidelined with a knee injury, Los Angeles Clippers fans shouldn't worry. Shooting guard James Harden is ready to take over.

Harden — a 10-time All-Star — scored 20 points in the first half of Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks. He also shot 4-of-6 from three and had four assists. His play is one reason the Clippers led 56-30 at halftime.

It's a bit of a surprise that Harden is carrying the Clippers. In 72 games in the regular season, the former MVP averaged 16.6 points, the third-lowest mark of his career. Perhaps he realizes he must shoulder a bigger workload with Leonard out of the lineup.

Leonard has not played since March 31 due to inflammation in his knee. Clippers head coach Ty Lue didn't clarify when he'll return, telling ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, "We're taking it day by day."

If Harden stays hot, it could help the Clippers avoid an upset. Los Angeles is trying to beat Dallas in the playoffs for the third time in four years.
